IOT System (Group Project)
EMA Smart Home System
Project Background
The EMA Smart Home System addresses the need for sustainable energy management in Singaporean households, specifically targeting residents in HDB flats. As the nation targets net-zero emissions by 2050, many homeowners face high utility bills due to forgotten appliances and a lack of effective monitoring tools. This modular solution automates energy saving through motion sensors and provides a centralized dashboard for real-time tracking, helping users reduce costs without compromising convenience.
Design Process
The design followed a data-driven approach, using questionnaires to identify common pain points like the lack of tools to monitor energy usage. After prioritizing features such as real-time tracking and remote control, the team mapped the system architecture using a Block Diagram that integrates BBBW Board units with various specialized sensors.
The implementation involved developing a web dashboard using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to enable remote appliance management and data visualization. This was followed by 3D prototyping and a phased deployment plan to ensure hardware reliability and a smooth user experience.

Role & Impact
As the group leader, I led the team through all project phases to ensure timely delivery, technical precision, and a final grade of A. My role involved managing the seamless integration of five BBBW boards with specialized sensors and the central web interface. Beyond leadership, I performed thorough quality assurance to ensure a bug-free system, contributed to the UX/UI design of the user-friendly dashboard, and developed core hardware code to enable automated energy actions.
